After the family team from Geneva left, the Southern Baptist mission held its annual meetings in Quito. Their kids between grades 7 and 12 came to El Refugio for camp. We ran programs for them very similar to the EFC camp held earlier in the summer.

Next began the preperations for our largest group of the summer. 58 kids between grades 11 and 12 came to do work projects and ministry for 9 days. In 3 and a half work days, they completed pouring an extension on the staff house driveway, a concrete pad behind the work team kitchen, a pad beside the Casa Grande, and a few pads in the horse stables. They also dug over 200 metres of trenches and laid new electrical and phone lines in them, built a new awning for extended seating outside the work team kitchen, painted several buildings, and created a seating area for several of the high ropes elements.

When they weren't working, the kids held two afternoons of VBS in two locations with over 100 kids attending. Their second Sunday, the Baptist church in Calacali asked the group to hold a youth rally in the main plaza of the town which they did. The church was very thankful because for some time they had been trying to find a way to minister to more of the community and this was the first major step to doing that.

The group also saw a little bit of Quito when they visited the city dump and toured the Basilica. They also spent two days in the jungle near Puyo. On the way back they had the privilege of seeing Tungurahua erupt. Click here to see photos from the team.
