Our teams used to either be part of Quito Quest or El Refugio. This year, the ministry
has grown to include two new areas: Adventure Missions and FC United.
The month of July has many Quito Quest teams passing through the door of Youth World and the country of Ecuador. Interns are a large part of Quito Quest and this summer 13 interns have dedicated their summers to leading teams. The interns help create an environment for teams that is conducive to learning about a new culture and way of life. God has been working hard in the lives of many Quito Quest teams already!
One of the first Quito Quest teams of the summer was a group of high school students from Fort Mills, South Carolina. One of the students came here with no intention of changing his atheist beliefs - yet in four days God was stirring a new view in him. During a gathering at a work site, he stood up in the middle of friends and strangers and proclaimed that through his mission experience in Ecuador, he understands Jesus and His vision through watching people acting out their faith everyday.
Prayer Requests:
Continued strength and safety for the rest of the summer and hosting teams.
Personal relationships with Jesus Christ formed and renewed.
Global hearts and vision stirring in the Quito Quest teams.
EXPOSING
YOUTH, ADULTS AND FAMILIES TO MISSIONS, MINISTRY AND THE WORLD Through our short-term ministries, we seek to:
EXPOSE
We want groups to see missions & the world in a whole new way. We
program so that they receive maximum exposure to diverse cultures,
missionary groups & the national evangelical movement. We
believe that through exposure, it creates an awareness that will change
that persons life forever.
SERVE
We provide opportunities for our groups to get their hands dirty in
hands on ministry. Whether it be a work project, a children's
program or a ministry of compassion, we want our groups to be involved
in serving, and in serving they share the love of God that lives within
them.
CHALLENGE
We want people that come with short-term teams to be challenged not only in
their involvement in missions, but in their personal relationship with
Christ. Our goal is not to challenge each person to become a missionary.
We want to challenge them to be obedient to God no matter where He calls
you to serve, and no matter what He calls you to do.
BUILD PARTNERS
An added benefit of groups coming through Quito is that it allows us
to present our ministry to a number of new churches & individuals
each year. We want to challenge everyone that comes to Quito to commit
to praying for the ministry of Youth World. We also want to provide
interested individuals & churches with the opportunity to get more
involved with our ministry on a regular basis.
Short-Term Impact
This summer, a team from Nashville, Tennessee came to Ecuador through our short-term program called Quito Quest. The team consisted of 33 adults and young people from the 1st Presbyterian Church. The group was able to work in a number of different ministries, including the Quito Dump and Aregelia Alta, a ministry site that Youth World partners with. While at Argelia Alta, the team was challenged with the need for the community to have a high school. Currently, there isn’t one that available for young people to attend. The pastor and director of the project at Argelia, Ramiro Maldonado, has dreamed of a Christian High School to serve that community, working through the church.
Upon this teams return, a number of the students were challenged to do something about this need! Today, this group of high school students have committed to raise $25,000 to launch a high school in this community! Their goal is to have the funds raised by the end of the summer.
The team has started a website to communicate this project: visit THE SECOND STORY for more information.

Youth Worlds goals in short-term mission is not only to help people have an incredible cross-cultural experience and ministry, but to allow God to change lives. This is a great story of God’s work continuing after the missions trip, impacting not only the ministry site here in Ecuador, but the lives of these 33 teams members, the church and in reality Nashville, Tennessee. People will ask “why”, and they’ll want to know more.
May God be glorified in this endeavor!
It’s a great story! We’ll keep you posted on the outcome.
