El Refugio
July 2008 Update
El Refugio hosts a wide range of diverse events for groups from all over the world. This month, five different countries were represented at El Refugio when missionary kids from the Southern Baptist Mission joined together for a four-day programming camp.
Other Recent Events:
El Refugio hosted an adventure race for 150 mountain bikers as they took advantage of the vast acreage around the hacienda. Project Adventure hosted the race and as a non-Christian organization, Youth World felt it would be a great way to make connections with the racers.
This month, El Refugio was a starting point for a team of fathers and sons who traveled from the U.S. to use the facilities as a way to strengthen the father-son bond through nature and outdoor adventure.
Prayer Requests:
- For the Ecuadorian facilitators as their passion for working at El Refugio has been recently stifled.
- Transistions within the El Refugio team - as some of the interns transition back to the U.S. and Australia.
El Refugio - The Location and Purpose
Youth World is proud to own and operate a 350-acre retreat and training center less than an hour north of downtown Quito. El Refugio began offering programming for youth and adults in January of 2004.
El Refugio exists to be a training and retreat center, which facilitates a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ though nature and outdoor adventure. Currently we offer low ropes, trust and team building exercises, 2 high ropes elements, rappelling, horseback riding, camping facilities, miles of hiking trails, indoor sleeping facilities for overnight groups, food service options and more. As we continue to develop facilities and programs, we will be able to offer more and more options for our groups.
