Joey SwensonJoey Swenson

Joey was born in Medellin, Colombia in 1981. His parents were missionaries to Colombia until 1989 when they moved to Quito, Ecuador. Joey lived in Ecuador until he graduated from the Alliance Academy in 1999. He then attended Nyack College where he graduated with a degree in Social Science in 2003.

In August of 2003, God called Joey back to Ecuador to be a missionary specifically to missionary kids.  He served at English Fellowship Church as the youth pastor for three years, mentored students as a member of the Chaplain’s Office at Alliance Academy, coached the Varsity boys soccer team and in the 2007-08 school year, taught Middle School and High school boys PE.

Growing up in South America, Joey has always had a passion for soccer and for the past 5 years, Joey has participated in several city tournaments. It was during these tournaments that God placed a new vision in Joey’s heart to build relationships and share the love of Jesus through soccer. In 2008, Joey, along with his brother, Josh. and friend, Chris Sylva, started a new ministry, organizing and hosting soccer tournaments and leading soccer teams from North America in short term missions. One day, they hope to start a soccer school with the intention of bridging the socio-economic gap that is so common in Ecuador.
